About Us

OnScale was founded in 2017 by a team of scientists and engineers dedicated to delivering world-class CAE on next-gen Cloud HPC.

OnScale Computer-Aided Engineering tools are based on proprietary multiphysics solvers that were developed and validated over 30 years by one of the largest engineering consulting firms in the world for DARPA, the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD), and large commercial customers.

The CAE solvers were architected for highly parallel mainframe computers to handle very large engineering simulation problems and are a perfect fit for modern cloud-based, high-performance computing. OnScale and its new team were spun out of Thornton Tomasetti in 2017.

OnScale gives engineers a wealth of design insights and highly accurate simulation results up to 100x faster than legacy CAE offerings. Current OnScale solutions address the simulation needs of Semiconductor and MEMS, 5G mobile, next-gen biomedical, and autonomous vehicle markets.

OnScale Leadership Team

Executive Team

Ian Campbell

CEO
Ian is an engineer and entrepreneur. Prior to founding OnScale, Ian founded NextInput, an award-winning Silicon Valley tech company that brought a new IoT sensor tech from concept to high-volume design wins in four years.

Dave Freed

CTO
Dave is an MIT-trained "Digital Physicist" and an expert in engineering simulation and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Before joining OnScale, Dave led the commercialization efforts for Dassault’s DigitalROCK, a first-of-its-kind "Digital Twin" computational analysis tool for oil and gas exploration, which accurately simulates multiphase flow in digitized rock samples to evaluate oil reservoir productivity. The cloud-based, high-performance computing (HPC) DigitalROCK solution was developed based on an advanced version of the Lattice-Boltzmann Method (LBM) for CFD. The technology came to Dassault through the $400M acquisition of Exa Corporation, a leader in CFD, in 2017. Prior to the Dassault acquisition, Dave led development and commercialization efforts of Exa’s groundbreaking LBM-based flow simulation capabilities for a range of applications in the fields of aeroacoustics and multi-phase flows.

Ryan Diestelhorst, PhD

VP of Product
As VP of Product, Ryan is helping to define the direction of OnScale’s growth and shore up its intellectual property position to create long-term enterprise value. Prior to joining OnScale, Ryan was co-founder and CTO of NextInput, an award-winning Silicon Valley MEMS sensor company.

Marc DiGregorio

VP of Growth
As VP of Growth, Marc leads Sales and Marketing with a focus on Product Led Growth strategies. Prior to joining OnScale, Marc has led Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success activities at SolidWorks, Dassault Systems, GrabCAD, and Stratasys.
